About Ricardo Melendro
As many newcomers to Canada, I am proud to call Canada my home. Born and raised in Colombia, I graduated with a degree in Biology, worked in a private consulting firm in environmental assessments for a couple of years, before pursuing a Masters in Environmental Engineering in Lausanne, Switzerland.
After my return from Europe, I worked for eight years in project management in the environmental engineering field of the largest coal complex in Latin America, in northeastern Colombia. While working there I met my future wife, who was teaching science at the international school in the local community. In 2002, I immigrated to Canada after receiving the Landed Immigrant visa in the professional category, and together we settled in the small town of Brighton, ON.
Also in 2002, we started investing in real estate and have since grown a portfolio of investment properties both in Ontario and Alberta. After working for several years as project manager in a Kingston environmental group, I realized that it was time to embark on a career change naturally transitioning from investing in real estate to becoming a licensed full time real estate professional.
I have been actively involved with the community since my arrival to Canada and enjoyed coaching soccer for several years. In addition I am a member of the local Rotary Club in Brighton and chair the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. I currently live in Brighton with my wife and our two children, Daniel and Natalia.
I have been fortunate to have a great education and to be fluent in three languages (English, French and Spanish). I am also able to help people whose first language may be one other than English, to navigate the purchase and sale process.
I offer a unique understanding of the real estate market, backed by a specialized knowledge pertaining to real estate investment. These skills, combined with strong research capabilities allow me to help my clients to more fully assess their prospective purchases and sales. It has been a pleasure to be able to assist my clients when selling or buying their home.
It didn’t take me too long to realize, after embarking upon my current career, that there are many ways to approach the business. I stay away from the transactional approach to sales in which you only hear from your Realtor at the moment to buy or to sell. Instead, I work on a relational approach, getting to know more about my clients and providing them with valuable information prior to buying or selling their home. As I grow my business by referral, I am committed to provide an excellent service, focusing on my clients’ needs and wants.
