Born in Toronto, John grew up in Etobicoke, studied at York University and raised his own family in Mississauga South, Lorne Park. At York University, John studied Physical Education and was an athlete himself; he was selected to represent Canada on the Junior National Volleyball Team in 1975 and traveled around the world competing on a national stage for 4 years. After starting his Real Estate career, John vowed "to treat people in a way that [he] would want and expect to be treated”.
